12 Crafts of Christmas: Day 06 - Cutlery Pockets

These useful and elegant cutlery pockets can be customised to be made as simple or as detailed as you like. We started with a simple and timeless fabric, adding Christmas embellishments to add interest and fun. Send us your photos or tag us on Instagram: @CotswoldCurtains #CC12CraftsOfChristmas

You will need:

A long piece of fabric (check our ‘how to measure’ guide below)
Sewing machine
Twine or ribbon
Iron and ironing board
Christmas embellishments (we used dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks and a sprig of eucalyptus)

Method:

Measuring guide for fabric

Lay your cutlery on some fabric and fold the bottom of the fabric up to the level that you would like the cutlery covered. Measure from the bottom of the ‘pocket’ to just above the cutlery, then add this length to the piece of fabric that you need to cut. Your cut piece should be just over twice the length of your cutlery, plus the length you have just added to fold it back on itself.

Iron your fabric flat

Fold the fabric in half and sew around the edges, inside-out. Leave the top edge open so that you can turn the fabric back the right way around.

Turn the fabric the right way around and sew along the remaining top edge.

Place your cutlery back on the fabric and measure the size of the pocket you would like to create.

Sew along the edges, leaving the top edge open.

Place your cutlery inside.

Take your twine or ribbon and wrap it around the middle, threading on your embellishments as you go.
